Over the Years we have promoted and had lots of success with various of the Rare breeds.

We always like the unusual in the Rabbitry and no more so when we have a rare breed. Just a year after starting with the mini lop we aquired an amazing red rabbit called a thrianta....so many people have also fallen in love with them, that they have as of 2012 started their own club.

From there we went on to Perlfee's, beautiful pearl tipped opal rabbits, then we had the small Pearle grey of Halle, before ending with (at the time an unstandardised rabbit) the Hulslander a striking frost white blue eyed rabbit.

After a 6 year gap we tentively started up again with Hulstlanders but then changed our minds and settled on a quite rare breed the Golden Glavcot.

The Golden Glavcot and silver Glavcot were a breed that had been extinct until the late 1960's when a Mr J. Irons recreated the breed using Brown Siberians, Havana's and Brown Beveran. The Golden was recreated and shown for the first time in 1976 where Meg Brown of Rare Variety fame took the breed on adding agouti to it from the 'wild rabbit'. Today unfortunetly only a small handful of breeders still breed them.

The colour is basically cinnamon (though also called chocolate agouti and even golden agouti) and have this golden tip to the fur when rolled back. They are a docile breed, fine boned weighing no more than 6lb, they have a slate banding when you blow into the fur and to be honest make good companions and even good house rabbits. The silver glavcot has never been recreated as of yet to this day.....

As you can see by the photos they look agouti in colour, in fact they are chocolate agouti which gives them this lovely reddish golden glow in certain light. They are a very docile breed, make excellent mums and produce good sized litters. Due to the lack of breeders about although they do breed true, we have found out that keeping a brown Siberian in the shed helps enormously....which considering the last London Champs show 2014 there were only 2 Glavcots entered (both ours) i am glad we have Siberians too lol.

It is a shame that not many people love the breed as we do as they make wonderful pets....many who come into the rabbitry say 'oh wild rabbits' lol but my favourite has to be a 6 year old girl who saw them turned to her mum saying 'look they've got Peter Rabbit' :) and thats how I've always looked at them since :)

22/10/16 Just a quick catch up with our Glavcots entering the London Championship show earlier this month. One of our boys collected 8 stars getting the cc in the stock show and the main show. In the main show he actually got 2nd BiS under Mr Simon Whincup which was quite an achievement :)

18/09/2017 Just thought we would share some exciting news :) we have been contacted by someone in the US (Tyler Tedford) :) who looks to be starting up an American Glavcot club http://americanglavcot.webs.com/ whats exciting is that not only would they like to promote the Golden Glavcot but they want to try and re create the Silver Glavcot and they also want to create two new colours :) click on the link to see how they are getting on :)

03/02/2018 Quick catch up again :) some interesting news concerning the Glavcots :) and a thank you to Sami Ashton for this...Sami entered her Glavcot she got from us at the Bradford show in January and since then i have had 5 inquiries for stock which is fantastic for the breed :) unfortunately as we keep our stud very small and only mate about once a year I cant help people out yet :( stock has been mated up last week (though im not happy with 2 of my boys who dont know what their purpose in life is yet....and one in particular seems to have gender issues??) so hopefully with fingers crossed we will have some new additions later this month :)
