It does not stop there!

The trouble is, that when you get the rabbit bug you cannot stop lol so we ended up diversing into the rare breeds, starting with the Thrianta back in 1997 to Perlfee's, Hulstlanders, Sussex, Pearl Grey of Halle to ending recently in 2012 with the Golden Glavcot. (we even had a nethie, french lop and British Giant as pets)

Then you get caught up in the show scene!!

Over the years we have run our own local club (manager and secretary) been part of 'The London' (show stand manager) judged at shows (Kim for the NMLRC and Steve for the RVRC) and even had a colour standardised with the miniature lops (Chocolate Tort).

Life sometimes throws wobblers...

Then disaster struck in 2005 with Kim being made disabled through a misdiagnosis. Kim could not even get in the rabbit shed let alone go to shows so the rare breeds went first then almost all our Mini lops went apart from keeping back 4 as pets. We moved to a new house in 2010 kept an old block of hutches and kept the old line going (1 mating a year for pets). Then one weekend i took Kim out for a Sunday drive...i had seen that the London was at Peterborough and half way there said do you want to go...you will not believe how nervous she was about going but  the welcome we both received from breeders and judges alike...well it was like we had never left! with the encouragement of so many lovely people within the fancy our journey home was just filled with smiles and memories....then Kim said those words that many of us regret later lol...'shall we get some rabbits and start showing' and that was when we decided to come back...

Thank you's have to go out to Daren Morris, Laurel Benson, Trina Cooke, Sue Burgess and Darren Every in helping or sourcing stock for us; there are of course others who have also helped in there own ways by making us both feel so welcome and they know who they are....so before the tears start lol welcome to Tarax Stud and hopefully you now know a little more about us than you did before.

About us

(she is so going to kill me putting this picture up lol)

We are Kim & Steve Tolton  a husband a wife team who have bred and shown rabbits since 1996, after visiting a rabbit show in Chelmsford we fell in love with the Miniature Lop Rabbit (the black otter). With the help of 2 fantastic mentors Daren Morris and Ann Jones we were away with our stock.

I dont think either of us realised how much this hobby of breeding and showing would have such an impact on both of our lives. We made more new friends in the first 3 years than in the 20 years before!

Amazing breeders out there who were so passionate about their own rabbits...Judges who spent time talking to new and old about stockmanship, showing , handling etc.

And as for the shows themselves...well the local 2* show was something anyway, but the first time we walked through the doors at London or even Bradford...well lets just say those memories will be staying for a very long time :)
